V8 Supercars has honoured Orrcon Steel’s 10th year in the sport at Sydney Olympic Park today, with Tony Cochrane making a special presentation to Orrcon Steel Managing Director, Leon Andrewartha on the Sydney Telstra 500 grid.

Cochrane paid tribute to the lead sponsor on Mark Winterbottom’s #5 Orrcon Steel Ford Performance Racing team Falcon – who have led the way in terms of customer engagement and sponsorship leverage over the time they have been involved in the sport.

“Orrcon Steel has been one of our most loyal and valuable sponsors over the last 10 years,” Cochrane said. “The company has gone from being an unknown in the Australian market to a leader in it’s field utilising it’s V8 Supercars program as the foundation.”

Andrewartha said the V8 Supercars partnership has driven growth of the organisation since its inception in 2002.

“The company has mirrored the growth of V8 Supercars in many respects,” said Andrewartha. “We’ve grown to be one of the leading steel distributors in Australia – and now have operations in every state and territory.

“The board wanted a fast-paced technology driven environment to show off it’s brand and V8 Supercars provided the perfect platform. It’s allowed us to grow the company and provide unique experiences for staff and customers alike.

“Orrcon Steel has become synonymous with Ford and Mark Winterbottom throughout the partnership and the relationship we have with Ford Performance Racing continues to go from strength to strength.”

Orrcon Steel entered V8 Supercars in 2002 as a partner of Mark Larkham’s Larkham Motorsport operation – it was here the relationship with Mark Winterbottom first began.

When that organisation morphed into WPS Racing, Orrcon Steel carried over before extending it’s commitment and becoming the naming rights partner to the #5 Ford Performance Racing machine.

Orrcon Steel provides unique experiences for customers, including a fully interactive corporate suite at many events – which has set the corporate hospitality benchmark in Australia.

The company is involved in many other leveraging activities both at and away from the racetrack.

Since it’s inception, Orrcon Steel has contributed to many of Australia’s most iconic infrastructure projects – including the MCG redevelopment, AAMI Park in Melbourne, the Q1 Tower on the Gold Coast and the Perth to Mandurah Railway in Western Australia to name a few.

Orrcon Steel has played a key role in supplying steel toward the development of the V8 Supercars Car of the Future that was also unveiled this weekend at Sydney Olympic Park.
