Will Power wins Mario Andretti trophy

Will Power, who will join the Orrcon Steel-backed Ford Performance Racing outfit for the Armor All Gold Coast 600 in October, continued his winning ways in the IZOD IndyCar Series at the weekend.

Courtesy of his victory in the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma Power secured the inaugural Mario Andretti Cup for the highest points scorer on the road and street course events in 2010.

Power dominated last weekend’s race to take his fifth win of the year and further extended his margin at the head of the overall championship standings.

The result is in contrast to Power’s last visit to Infineon Raceway in 2009 where he suffered serious back injuries in a practice crash.

Toowoomba-born Power will be one of 18 international drivers heading to the Gold Coast in October to do battle on the Surfers Paradise street circuit.
